Horse Racing Handicapping Final Analysis
If handicapping alone was the complete answer, then all horse-players would probably be rich, but handicapping alone is NOT the answer. Value analysis should be joined with other handicapping factors for a winning combination.
Speed factors do not have the impact for profit that they once had. Pace secrets are overplayed and exposed. The new information superhighway has exposed many trainer and jockey angles. Good selections and handicapping betting lines are easy to obtain via online racing services.
Today's handicappers are really much more informed and sophisticated. Bettors today consist of owners, trainers, grooms, jockey agents and tip sheet sellers. These players all have an array of information to which the public may not have access to. They represent an important part of the informed betting money today. They are sometimes referred to as the smart money. The other bettors include handicappers who make use of online handicapping services and software programs. In this day and age, there is very little uninformed money going into the betting pools.
Horse racing has changed greatly. Many of the old axioms no longer apply. The betting fraternity has changed. The handicapping factors which were once thought to be gospel are no longer valid profit wise.
Today's handicapping buzzword is value betting. However, finding value bets is not as simple as today's so-called experts would lead one to believe. Much of the money that shows up in the wagering pools is intelligent money. The uninformed money is being bet under old traditional handicapping methods that are no longer profitable.
Value bettors test their handicapping approach by analyzing the odds and betting pools, to find the optimal value betting range. A successful player is not primarily interested in winning any one bet, but rather winning on a long term basis.
The terms "manipulate and maneuver" are commonly used to describe a strategy that may constitute a "build-up" program; should a trainer race a horse one or more times under unsuitable conditions and the horse shows a poor performance; the betting public is usually weaned away from betting it again. Such races make up a "build-up" program. Then, when a horse is finally entered under suitable conditions, the public will generally give it much less betting support at the mutual windows; and its odds will, therefore, be proportionately higher than its true winning chances.
If you have been handicapping horses for a while, you know that horse racing profits are tricky and elusive. As handicappers we believe in wagering with an edge, managing risk and following a disciplined handicapping approach. The trick for most handicappers is to know which horses are in condition and have the ability to win.
We have been publishing special private handicapping reports for our clients since the early 1980's. Although most of the formulas and data we use are proprietary information for our reports. Many of the concepts we use to select "fit and ready horses" for our client reports are included in our book "Analyzing Professional Betting Action." The 2023 E-book edition is ready.
